Civics Lesson - Statue of Liberty Tour

Welcome to the Statue of Liberty! For over 100 years this famous American landmark greeted immigrants to the shores of the United States. She is a beautiful reminder of the importance of political liberty and of friendship between countries. This EL Civics history and government lesson will take you on a guided tour of this historic landmark. Where is the Statue of Liberty? The Statue of Liberty is in New York Harbor on a small island called Liberty Island. The wall that surrounds the statue is shaped like a star.

How do people get to Liberty Island? They ride ferry boats to the island. Tourists can buy ferry tickets at Battery Park. In this photo, you can see the ferries in the water. There is no fee to enter the Statue of Liberty.
